Pouring Down Rain -- Marilyn Gets Soaked!!!!!!

Marilyn had another hugely busy day at work. Plus she had a 'lunch' meeting with no food (!!!) that was terribly intense. So most of the day she went without anything to eat. (I hate that so much for her.)

She was jurying for the International Youth Silent Film Festival tonight. It's quite a walk from the office to where this is held -- and she was drenched! Her coat is hanging to try and dry out. Her pants were dripping wet (!!!). I got her something out of her purse -- and the cardboard box was DAMP!!! Inside her purse!!!

Lovely getting that wet and then sitting that way during the jury process (I've been there myself in the past) -- especially when she's still getting over being sick. (sigh)

She and Angel left the office at 4:00 and did get a drink and something small to eat before going to that event. She didn't get home until nearly 8:00. Then she had some food (leftovers from last night) here at home. Now she's having a nap while I blog upstairs in our office.

As for me, I did my pee-pee with no issues this morning into my sample cup for the clinic. Sue came at 10:30 on the dot, and we went over there. I can't believe they don't just take the sample from you at the front desk (really???) -- instead they send you back to the lab to deliver it. I had to wait for AGES 'in line' (I was the only one!) for one of the two women to finally call me over and let me back to where the lab is... What's THAT about?

My main complaint about my clinic is the front desk. Talk about attitude! They are just awful.

Anyway, after that we headed in to St. Johns where Mary has her dental office. Sue and I were chatting with Shannon (the office assistant) and Holly (the dental assistant). Then Holly did some x-rays of my teeth while Mary worked on another patient. Then Mary looked at my x-rays and we chatted.

I need three appointments for the work that needs to be done -- and after such a long time without seeing her, we both felt that was great news! There's nothing serious that needs work, by the way. She commended me on my 'dental hygiene' (which made me feel good). Marilyn and I are both good at brushing and flossing regularly.

Mary decided to do the teeth cleaning today and the other work later (but she did give me input -- and that's what I wanted, too). It feels GREAT to have clean teeth! The pain from before is currently gone, so I didn't mind waiting for the other work. I have the following apointments:
March 2 (Wednesday) - 12:00 noon
March 9 (Wednesday) - 12:00 noon
March 16 (Wednesday) - 12:00 noon

I love having those matchy-matchy appointments -- it makes it very easy to remember them!

Sister Sue set up an appointment for herself to finally get her dental work done. I'm so glad!!! (She's been waiting to do it for a long time now.)

After my dental stuff, Sue took me to Starbucks in St. Johns. Then I went home and started working on festival work-related stuff. (I had already done a bit before leaving the house this morning.)

I also decided to focus on laundry a bit (I did several loads). I went through some clothes and got a few bags for the Goodwill.

I still have a bag of stuff to take over to June. I really need to do that. I found one top with long sleeves I'm keeping for Sue to try. (She only likes long-sleeved shirts.) I don't know if she'll like it or not, but it's a nice top I used to where a lot (and it's still in very good shape).

I went through a huge box of Marilyn's jewelry that she's getting rid of. Some of it I'm going to keep, some will go for gifts (lots of it is BRAND NEW). And I picked out a pile for making craft items (like jewelry trees).

I woke with nausea and was very gaggy again this morning. I took a pill and was happily better by the time I reached the dentist!

And I had stomach pains on and off ALL DAY LONG again. I'm severely constipated -- yes, still. I don't get it. I haven't taken a pain pill in DAYS AND DAYS. I've been reading a ton about the subject and found some fascinating things that are totally contrary to what we've been told our whole life about bowel health. Drinking lots of water doesn't help constipation! It's complicated, but the water doesn't get absorbed the way you would think. I'd share more, but it's long-winded and I'm really tired. I want a nap big time now...

Tomorrow night is our board meeting -- so obviously I'll be going to work tomorrow. I'm going to tell Donn to come in on Friday, though. (I'll also be in the office that day.)

I need to help Christine in the morning. I have calls to make and website work to do. And IT, apparently, as well. I need to check what's up with Marilyn's email, for one thing!!!

What else?

We watched "The Middle" tonight. We love that show SO VERY MUCH! I guess because it's so much our own lives growing up.

I had yogurt for breakfast. Some green beans and a small bowl of leftover noodles for lunch. And I ate some olives (which seem to help my digestive issue, believe it or not!). Then I had a can of double noodle chicken soup (Campbell's) for dinner. I'll try and eat more Activia before bed.

The rain is just pouring! It's supposed to pour for days on end. (sigh)

My arthritis is killing me. Still, I got my 4,000 steps yesterday (not even sure how!), and right now have more than 3,200 steps for today. (Again, not sure how. I was only walking here in the house, really...)

My arthritis (bursitis) is KILLING ME. With no pain meds, it's a wonder I can even walk -- especially up and down the stairs in our house! I have that huge staircase at work (my space is upstairs) -- so I'm not much looking forward to that. (sigh)

My weight is down. Even in clothes. I can't wait to be weighed on Friday at the clinic... Hahaha.

Tomorrow will be a busy day! Sleep beckons. Good night, friends!
charlie sick, sick in bed

Good News (woo hoo) & Bad News (sigh)

Bad News: I'm still really sick. I was pretty miserable all night long. Not sure if this is a COLD or the flu (I'm still thinking a cold), but it's bad, whatever it is. It was such a relief to get home from work last night... And I was pretty much dreading going to the dentist today. It's hard enough to go when you can breathe through your nose okay -- awful when you can't! They had me re-do my paperwork and I was so out of it that I screwed it up several times. Not kidding.

Bad News: I had TERRIBLE leg cramps last night and this morning! Just awful. So much pain. And I was almost out of pills, too...

Good News: I took Christmas to all three of them at my dentist (Mary, Holly and Shannon) -- and to Kathy, my hair dresser (plus cookies for the entire shop).

Bad News: Mary was concerned about me running a fever, so she wanted me to take antibiotics (plus the antinausea meds, pain pills and meds for a potential yeast infection). Actually, that's probably a good news/bad news thing. (And the fever is probably from this cold.) I guess Mary could actually feel the heat coming off me...

Good News: They did x-rays and Mary examined the tooth that's bothering me, and it's probably (fingers crossed) only a cavity that needs filling! Hopefully it's NOT going to need a root canal. At least, we're all hoping so at this point! That would be very, very good news, indeed!

Good News: Sister Sue was kind enough to take me to the appointment in St. Johns (she waited in the car), then to Kathy's shop and to Freddies (I got more leg cramp pills and soup). And to drop off my prescriptions at Riteaid, too. Wasn't that nice of her???

Good News: I've looked for Campbell's Double Noodle Soup several times recently. I kind of assumed they'd discontinued making it. But I FOUND IT today (and bought a couple of cans). I love to eat it, especially when I'm not feeling well.

Bad News: I felt LOUSY all day long. After I got home from the dentist and errands, I had some soup and went right back to bed. Later I took another hot bath. And Marilyn had suggested I have a drink to relax me, which I did. It really helped me to sleep.

I'm in pain and restless, stuffed up and have a sore throat. I'm very fatigued, too. I watched a little bit of TV in bed and read my Kindle. But a lot of the time I was just lying there feeling crappy...

The cats were with me a lot today, sweet boys!

Marilyn didn't get home until well past 8:00 p.m. tonight! She had a very busy day, and a bunch of meetings.

I did manage to get up and make us each a cheese sandwich for dinner (I washed my hands twice before doing that -- and I didn't breathe on the food).

I really, really hope Marilyn won't get my bug!

I guess Rich came back today after being out for two days -- then he had to go home! There are a lot of bugs floating around out there.

I'm thinking about another hot bath. It really helps with the aches and pains (and to relax me so I can actually sleep). Last night I fell asleep in the tub -- and the water was hot enough that I didn't chill.

The weather is miserable here! Pouring down rain and cold, too.

I just checked my email over for the first time all day. And I haven't even looked at my iPad or iPhone all day long.

Well, back to bed! I hope I feel better tomorrow (it's garbage day!).
kindle read

Another Good (Vacation!!!) Day...

I slept in -- yes, again! Hahahahahaha. Part of the pleasure of being on vacation, after all!

I'm reading a new Mary Russell book (!!!) on my Kindle right now: "The Moor: A Novel of Suspense Featuring Mary Russell and Sherlock Holmes" [Kindle Edition] by author Laurie R. King. As I've said before, Laurie R. King is an AMAZING writer -- and I love this series of books so very much! This Kindle download was a BIRTHDAY GIFT to me from Marilyn (thanks, Marilyn -- a TON!!!). I've previously read three other books in this series. I can't recommend them highly enough.

I also downloaded Scaredy Cat (Tom Thorne Novels) [Kindle Edition] by author Mark Billingham, but I haven't started reading it, yet. I saw the MOVIE they made from several episodes of the Thorne TV series (with David Morrissey in the title role of Detective Inspector Tom Thorne -- I really love David in this role!), which was what inspired me to look up the novel and download it...

Interesting, really. All my life various movies and TV shows have inspired me to end up reading the books they were based on -- both fiction and non-fiction. And that certainly hasn't changed now that I'm (gulp) 60...

I did the treadmill today for 30 minutes -- and hope to start making a habit of DAILY exercise, which I really need.

I did the treadmill while watching an episode of "The Tudors" -- one of those 'guilty pleasures' TV shows. Yeah, yeah -- lots of the stuff is historically incorrect, but you can't help enjoying it, anyway! And, yeah, Jonathan Rhys Meyers is totally WRONG physically for the role of Henry VIII -- yet there's something about him that works, even so. Maybe that charisma! I don't know. But I imagine Henry Tudor was simply full of charisma (the way a lot of political men are today) -- and just bigger than life. Anyway, the first two seasons Marilyn and I never missed this series. We loved Thomas More and Cardinal Wolsey and Queen Catherine of Aragon and Anne Boleyn... The episode I saw today was with Jane Seymour...

Marilyn and I finally signed our Christmas cards to give to our neighbors. I'd kind of thought I might start taking out the stuff today, but that didn't end up happening. There's time, of course -- but I need to get on it starting tomorrow!

I had a dental appointment this afternoon, to get my two most recent root canals filled with permanent fillings, finally. So we did take our gifts for Mary (my dentist), Holly and Shannon (her assistants) -- and both Mary and Holly were thrilled by them (Shannon wasn't in).

Turns out I'm going to need a CROWN on the one tooth. (sigh) Lately it's always SOMETHING that costs $$$, it seems! I really hated giving that piece of news to Marilyn...

She dropped me off and went to meet sister Sue for coffee at Starbucks. I guess it turned out to be both Sue and granddaughter Nicole. I saw the two VERY BRIEFLY when my appointment was over, as Sue was taking Nicole to meet up with her boyfriend Ulises -- so they left mere minutes after I arrived...

They seemed pleased by the Christmas tree we dropped by last night. And today we took them their cards and the cat sock we had for their two cats.

Marilyn and I were both starved (I'd only had Activia yogurt and Marilyn hadn't had a bite), so we went out for Chinese food (I guess it was around 3:30 or so by then...). We like the local Chinese place, Lung Fung restaurant (which is close by on Lombard).

Then we came home and goofed off and finally decided to have naps -- I love to lie down with my Kindle and read myself to sleep! (grin)

This evening we watched the Miss Universe pageant -- I was surprised that Miss USA won. Marilyn and I had been pulling for Miss Australia, actually... But what a lot of BEAUTIFUL women! Wow. They were all just stunning.

I need to be sharing more photos here, but I've been too lazy to upload them. Maybe I'll do that one of these days soon...

Dental Woes? Noes. (grin) Well, A Little Bit...

This morning's dental appointment was actually to FINISH UP the second half of my last root canal (which I mentioned HERE). I guess I hadn't realized it wasn't done (!!!), silly me! If you read the entry I just linked, you'll find that I'm pretty much whining about the pain.

Well, different day, same issue! Hahahahahaha. Yeah, I can kind of laugh, but not really. I'm in some serious pain right now, preparing to do what Mary (my dentist) told me to do when she sent me home (hours ago) -- take the heavy-duty pain meds and lie down.

Thankfully, sister Sue took me to my appointment. She's so good about doing that! Anyway, I got there at 10:00, but wasn't done for ages today. Even though Mary had given me a big shot, she had to give me more (directly inside the tooth) during the work, it hurt so bad. And even then it didn't really stop the pain...

After the work was done, I asked WHY this root canal was so painful. I mean, I've had TONS of root canals over the years, and normally I don't think anything of them. You know, people will be commiserating with me and so kind about it, and I'll be acting like it's no big deal (and I usually feel that's true). Holly spoke up and mentioned that because it was a wisdom tooth it had three roots, rather than just one. Mary has had a couple root canals recently herself and said wisdom teeth just tend to hurt more. So I guess that's it. Ouch! I'm really ready to be out of pain any time now. (I know, stop bitching about it. It is what it is, after all!)

I even had to make a new 'ouch' icon in honor of this! Hahahahaha. My old one didn't seem to quite cut it...

I've done some website work for the festival (an interesting situation where I accidentally removed a page that needed to be there -- it's more complicated than that, so it took several codings of more than one page to fix). And I worked some more on the RHSAA end of year appeal eNewsletter, too.

Sue and I did go for coffee after my appointment (Starbucks at Freddies) -- and to pick up my prescriptions, hair color and a Powerball ticket. Okay, I KNOW that the Powerball is not to be used for investment purposes. Got it. Thanks. But come on! It was at $500 million last night and is now up to $550 million today. So whatever, I 'invested' $6. I know the odds are ridiculous, but you certainly can't win if you don't play at all. And I like the few hours of dreaming what we'd do with all that money. (smile)

The first things we always think about are giving a huge chunk to the festival -- and helping out people we know who really are in need. I can't remember a single time when Marilyn and I have even talked about how we'd spend money on ourselves, believe it or not. We'd set up a foundation to help manage the money for charities, which would be awesome to do. There's so much good that could come out of a huge sum of money like that...

Of course we'd pay off our bills and be able to stop worrying about money. But that's really the least of it, I think. The DREAM is about the GOOD that could come of it. And it's a sweet dream -- well worth $6!

Off to lie down for an hour (maybe). Then I'll get up and be more productive (again). Still fighting off a cold, but not going over to really sick so far -- which is a good thing.

I just glanced at my lists of names sitting in front of me. You can't write a novel with loads of characters without giving them names! (smile) And I want them to have certain names that I like, or that mean something to me...

I hope all of you are having a good day -- and good dreams! (hugs)
