Go to a Movie? Or Stay Home?

So, Marilyn and I were going to go see a movie after work tonight. We've been planning it all week. The time rolls around and she kind of says something about '...or we could stay home and have a nap...' -- and we're both jumping right on that idea. Hahahahaha.

Instead of going out, we were excited just to stay home and veg out! We both found it a relief not to be heading to the show. Go figure.

(No, no, no -- it's NOT a sign of old age! Don't go there! We just had a busy week and felt like taking it easy. Besides, we were going to a film/films we've seen before, so...)

I stayed home this morning, even though I'd planned to go to the office for the day. Then our neighbor Jim (June's husband -- they live next door) was kind enough to drive me downtown to the office this afternoon. (Very sweet of him!) I couldn't stop thinking about all the work I needed to do inside the actual office -- stuff that can't be done from home. I did get a bunch of stuff done.

Plus it was a good thing I was there. Rosanna (our former finance person who resigned recently to go to a new job) came by -- and she needed brief access to her old office and computer. So I needed to sit with her. Plus her passwords are all changed now, and as IT Manager I'm the one who has those and did the logging on to the computer and finance software. Actually, only one other person has those passwords right now -- and she wasn't in today! So, as I said, it was certainly good I ended up there. Very timely...

I'm looking forward to re-reading my book "Jesus: A Meditation on His Stories and His Relationships with Women" (by Andrew Greeley). I finished the book recently, but it had been ages since I picked it up, so I wanted to go back and read the beginning over so I'd have it fresh in my mind. Frankly, it's worth a second read! That man is such an amazing writer... Both sister Sue and friend June want to read it when I'm done -- and I don't blame them. Sue's read a lot of Greeley's fiction, but never any of his non-fiction. He's one of my favorite authors, but I haven't read that much of his non-fiction, either, really... I have some other books of his around here somewhere (???), so I need to dig them up, I guess.

Anyway, to those people who thought I might give up ever reading 'real' books, that hasn't happened so far! Yes, I probably read most stuff on my Kindle these days, but I still pick up books almost daily. I don't know if I'll ever stop.

Yesterday I got word that a close friend (his name is Clint) lost his beloved wife the night before. I wrote back to him today to offer sympathy, comfort and prayers. It's so hard to know what to say. I've known him for years, but never met his wife. It was only recently that I found out her name is Gloria -- which was Mom's name. What a small world...

I sent him a poem/prayer (Safely Home) that has been a huge comfort to me during loses for decades now. And told him I was here via email, phone or face-to-face if he needed me. We usually only see each other at the parade each year (one day -- but for years and years, mind you!). But we keep in touch via email all the time. He has children and grandchildren -- and he must have many friends, as he's a gem of a person. I cried for his loss, though I know he'll see Gloria again someday...

Today we found out that a dear friend (Bill) -- someone who is especially close to Marilyn -- has stage four cancer. It was terrible news. This man has been dedicated to the festival for many, many years -- and a rock for Marilyn. I can see his wonderful smile as I type this! He's starting serious treatment next week.

Oh! Our friend Sue (previous festival president) was in the office today and went to lunch with Marilyn. I hadn't seen her in ages. While she was president she was there ALL THE TIME, so it's been odd not having her around.

I think that's pretty much everything. And I've gone on far too long again! Oh well...
