Thursday at Home -- Mostly Sleeping and Reading, Thanks!

Marilyn stayed home sick today, which was no surprise. She was really feeling sucky yesterday. It had me pretty worried, actually! Why?

Because she mentioned feeling very much the same way she'd felt back in April 2011 (as I related HERE), when she collapsed at work and had to be taken to the emergency room via ambulance. That is far from a happy memory for either one of us, needless to say...

She had things she needed to do today (meetings, a personnel review and so on), but the afternoon was our Staff Holiday Party, so she knew it was okay to miss that. In other words, she has stuff she CAN'T miss tomorrow, so staying home and staying down to feel better made a lot of sense. She can hardly wait to get through the day Friday, understandably. After that she's on vacation for two weeks...

We were up much of the night. And we never did get out to buy gifts for the gift exchange part of today's party -- so we couldn't have attended even if we'd wanted to. Several people had to miss it besides us: Rosanna, Sara, Shelley and Danielle. (Mark spent 10 hours in the dentist's chair yesterday, so I don't know if he ended up attending or not...) Ashley offered to come and get me so I could go, but I wasn't about to leave Marilyn here alone. I didn't mind not going, but I do hope those who went had a good time! I heard that the best bowlers were Steven, Carol, Chris, Jeff and Alina. (I wish someone had taken a camera along for photos, but I'm somehow doubt that... It's usually my job.)

I've got Donn coming in tomorrow, so I'll be focusing on IT. I do need to work on the RHSAA Appeal, too, at some point... And cousin Linda is supposed to drop by at some point.

I've finished up the garbage and recycling for this week -- what I call the 'real' garbage week (seeing as the City of Portland only gets actual garbage picked up every other week -- as opposed to getting recycling and composting picked up every week). We had a very full can this week, but didn't need another bag. I'd been worried we might, as we seemed to have so much garbage this week... (And, again, we're talking two weeks worth of garbage!)

I'm watching a Christmas show on LMN -- "All She Wants for Christmas" (seems pretty good, as these things go)...

I finished reading the amazing book The Secret Piano: From Mao's Labor Camps to Bach's Goldberg Variations" [Kindle Edition], by Zhu Xiao-Mei (and translated by Ellen Hinsey). Zhu Xiao-Mei is an incredible woman! I loved this book and would highly recommend it. I'm surprised it's so difficult to find her online, by the way. But you can find YouTube videos of her playing the piano, at least. I think I got done with that the day before yesterday, actually...

I've been reading two romance books I downloaded for free (via Pixel of Ink. I finished one of them today, which was a good read. I'm not normally that into romance books, but I sometimes enjoy them as light reading. (smile)

Always nice to get time to read, anyway!
