Cleaning House and Decorating -- and NaNoWriMo

I'm actually cleaning house today! Dusting, organizing, rearranging and vacuuming. Whew. I'm taking a much-needed break right now...

When I finish, I plan to decorate (lightly) for Halloween. Yeah, it's pretty late to bother, but oh well. Who cares? I'm the one who'll have to take it down after, so if I don't mind, why not?

Actually, I'm glad the idea of decorating got me into tidying around here. I really needed to do it!

I also hope to get my hair colored today. Also really needed. (smile)

It was quite cold this morning. But I foolishly turned up the heat and have been dying the whole time while cleaning. I'm pouring sweat! (I even had to open windows and the back door...)

It's a pretty day outside. Very much Autumn, but sunny. Blustery, I guess. The wind is really blowing like mad. (Knocking down more leaves, I guess!)

I talked to Marilyn mistressmarilyn at one point (noon-ish) and she wasn't feeling at all well. She's done her Update for the month (wonderful read, as always), so I wish she'd just come home!

Fortunately, she's taking Monday (Halloween) off, so we have a lovely three-day weekend to look forward to. We're both excited about that...

The start of our new budgeting has begun. It's interesting, to say the least. But we've lived through far worse in our lives with no qualms. So no worries! It will be really worth it to have Marilyn working four-day weeks for the next two months! (With tons of three-day weekends on the horizon.)

We'll appreciate that when we get started on the NaNoWriMo project next Tuesday. I'm really looking forward to it. (To tell you the truth, I'm rather surprised that more of our friends don't do it, considering so many of them love to write. According to the rules, fanfic is entirely acceptable. So...)

Marilyn and I are both tackling non-fanfic projects, though. I have something of a children's book I want to try, personally. I'd better not spill her plans, in case she'd prefer not to. (grin)

I did a 'trial' run last night. I wrote for around an hour (or less) on the 'book' (concept) I'd originally planned to do -- before a dream prompted the new project, that is! (grin) Yes, I'm actually inspired for my upcoming effort by a nightmare I had, believe it or not.

Anyway, in less than an hour I wrote around 1,400 words, give or take. Taking the goal of 50,000 words and dividing it by 30 (days in November), you need to write around 1,600 to 1,700 words per day. I was actually surprised how easy it was! (grin) My 1,400 words was under four pages using MS Word.

We figure if we get late in the month and have quite a bit to do that we can spend a couple of days just writing. I honestly think it would be no problem to knock off 5,000 to 10,000 words doing that, depending on the hours spent...

The thing about NaNoWriMo is that it doesn't require a polished end product! The whole idea is to free yourself to just write quantity, as opposed to quality. It's a concept I could use, as I tend to self-edit as I write -- to say nothing of all the re-writes after the original go-around...

I already discovered last night that writing without editing will be difficult for me! I was backtracking and rearranging words and sentences as always. (grin)

What that tells me is that when I really 'let go' and just write, I should easily be able to write 1,500 words in an hour...
