City Council Passes Our Building and Sign

This was a big day for the festival! This morning the Portland City Council passed the initiative that covers our new building downtown -- and the neon sign that will go with it. (Last week was a mess, so this was a delight.)

It's an exciting moment in festival history.

My morning meeting got canceled, but I had plenty of work to make up for it. I focused (again) on IT, and got no website work done. Nor did I get a start on my eBulletin. Oh well. Ron came in and did some work and I met briefly with Lilia...

And I did get my hair cut today. Plus Marilyn mistressmarilyn and I broke away briefly to get some lunch (that we ate at our respective desks).

We stayed late so Marilyn could work on getting her stories ready to submit for the writing contest (they need to be postmarked by tomorrow). Hopefully things will go more smoothly for her tomorrow, because tonight was a trial for her (and I regret I was part of the issue at one point, for which I'm terribly sorry and repentant).

To be clear, I don't begin to put my writing in the same category as Marilyn's. I know my limitations -- and more importantly I know how talented and skilled she is. My goal is certainly not to compete against Marilyn. But I had hoped simply to compete, because I feel it's a healthy process for a writer to get their work out there.

However, I had opportunities to work on my writing and decided in favor of other things (work and play), so if I can't get it ready in time tomorrow, I'm not going to whine about it. I've known the deadline was approaching.

But I'm up (having now finished the garbage and recycling), so there's no reason I can't work on it right now. I might just do that.

Here's the thing: Even if I don't enter the work, it would be nice to finish the two stories I'd planned to enter. The only thing standing in my way is being tired and having blurry vision. And I'm not sure I'm ready to let those two things stop me... I guess we'll see what happens when I try.

Anyway, again, this was a memorable day for the festival! We taped City Council (which replayed at 11:00 p.m.) after getting back from a quick dash to the store. It was really moving to hear what they had to say about 'partnering' with the festival! Marilyn's relationship with Mayor Adams and Jeff's relationship with Commissioner Leonard certainly played a big part in all this, and they can both be very proud. I'm proud of both of them!
