It's just past 4:00 p.m.
Marilyn mistressmarilyn and I were up at 4:00 a.m. to be ready to head out and be at the hospital by 5:30. (We were early. Thanks, sister Sue! She's turning into Mom--always way early for everything...)
We'd gone to bed around 2 a.m. last night. (Too worked up to sleep.) We maybe had 2 hours sleep. Maybe. (sigh)
But the surgery went wonderfully!
Marilyn had a spinal rather than a general, so she was (believe it or not) awake the entire time, according to her doctor! (He said she 'may' have dozed off once...)
The surgery took exactly the amount of time he'd said: An hour and 15 minutes!
No cancer detected in the fibroid. The cyst takes longer to check--so we won't know for four to five days. But it looks good.
So we get to her room (after she's been almost exactly two hours in recovery and then sent up) and she's in terrible pain. Terrible.
And it goes on and on.
She doesn't want to whine or complain and doesn't want to bother the nurse with it. But Sue and I are pretty disturbed.
Finally the nurse asks her on a scale of one to ten how bad she'd say it was and Marilyn says it's a nine. The nurse was pretty freaked.
It was finally under control by around 2 p.m.
She was starting to seem like she might sleep when we took off...
We had to make a couple stops on the way home (pick up cat food and mail letters). I'm dead beat and should try to sleep, but I feel hyper, I guess.
I'm trying to wind down so I can relax a little...
Poor, poor Marilyn! She really suffered.
I cried just a couple tears leaving her. I hated to do it.
Years ago when she was in the hospital for an illness, I barely left her side...
Anyway, I need to feed (and calm down) the cats. Make some calls and tell people how she is. Maybe eat. Lie down and have a nap.
She might want us back tonight. I'm fine with that!
Thanks so very, very much for all of you who wrote me and sent me ecards (or commented at LJ). And for all the many notes/ecards sent directly to Marilyn! I can't tell you how much it means to me right now. Hugs to all of you!
