The Tree Near the Garage of Our House

In this morning's ENTRY, I mentioned the evergreen tree that's planted right beside our driveway, near the garage.

I don't know the variety, but it's a huge old monster of a tree that we love. It blocks the sun from our deck in the back, and helps shield the house, and drops it's weird pine cones into our gutters, and lays branches on the roof that have to be cut back to avoid moss. It can be a pain, but all in all it's a lovely thing. I can't begin to TELL how thick it is, but these pictures will certainly SHOW that!

Photo share!

Here you can get an idea of how THICK it is!

Looking from the porch. See how the area under the
tree (the driveway) has no snow at all? And the same
is true for the sidewalk near the tree.

There's still snow on the lawn near the tree, but
it's far less than other places. And, again, the
driveway is clear!

You'd swear we'd cleared off the driveway and the
sidewalk -- not true!

In this close up, the snow is still falling and
shows up in the photo. It almost looks like rain,
but trust me, it was snow!

Looking down our street. You can see how the
sidewalk appears clear under the tree.

This is shot from the alley looking toward the
house. Again it shows how clear things are under
the tree. It takes a lot of snow to actually get
through! (Maybe plus some wind and drifts... ???)

Looking up the alley by our house. You can see the
tree on the right side of the photo. It hangs way,
way out into the alley!

They were happily wrong about any freezing rain -- but were entirely RIGHT that actual rain would come in and scrub out the snow during the day. There are only a few traces of snow left now...

There were some horrible accidents this morning, though, with the snow coming right during the morning commute! Vehicles rolled upside down and so on. Watching the noon news I was just cringing, imagining Marilyn mistressmarilyn out there driving in that mess!

Anyway, she got to work just fine and had no problem by the time she came home tonight.
