Marilyn mistressmarilyn, Angel and I attended the Cover to Cover Books Writers' Mixer for January, held at the Cover to Cover Books store, located over in Vancouver, Washington. As I've mentioned often, we live really close to Vancouver. (It's just across the river.)
And Angel lives over in Vancouver. (We know a lot of people who do, by the way.)
The invitation read:
We really had a good time! It ran over the expected hour and a half, but that was okay. It was really very interesting.
Plus I came away with a whole new appreciation for the Self Publication of books. I've always tended to look askance at self publication (which I saw as a Vanity Press-type thing) -- and now I realize it's quite legitimate, if done in the right way, with the right publishers. (Who knew?) They even have options for you to work with an Editor and get your ISBN!
The lecture and interaction with local authors was very inspirational. It really made me want to WRITE! (I so need to finish my NaNo novel...)
We got a lot of interesting links to various online sites. I was pleased that Mel (the speaker) is a LiveJournal blogger and has obviously been very active in various LJ communities.
This made me even MORE anxious to update my LJ Blogroll, so maybe I'll get a start on that now...
After we headed to the Super Wal-Mart in Vancouver and shopped, then stopped at Freddies to get some chicken.
We still have snow here at home (!!!), even though it's pretty much melted in most places. Yeah, those mounds of snow created with snowplows will probably be with us for weeks, but most local snow is gone. It's weird how we seem to live in a 'snow zone' that has snow sparkling on the ground under the street lamps. (I just ran next door to June and Jim's, and it's DAMN COLD outside.)
I learned a nifty little trick that involves using CSS to style text, which ends up looking like this:
Isn't this cool???
Have I mentioned recently how much I adore coding with HTML and CSS? (smile)
You use a styled span and animated image (glitter or whatever) to make your text look sparkled and special.
Anyway, if anybody would like to see the code and try it out, let me know. I'm always glad to share!
Everything is so good that we won't mention my neck pain and dizziness, that seems to be an attack of vertigo... (sigh)
