At the Office

Marilyn mistressmarilyn and I did sleep until past noon today, which was marvelous. (That bug has really exhausted us...)

Anyway, this afternoon we came in to the festival office, to get some work done. As it's now past 9:00 p.m., so you can see we were serious about that goal!

Not surprisingly, Marilyn is swamped. When she's out even for a day, she comes back to tons of emails and voice mails, aside from other work. Missing days last week already have her busy, so I can only imagine what it'll be like when she gets back from two weeks off!

I've been on both IT-related and website-related tasks. So far, so good. I'm probably going to require Kent's help on a couple of things, but otherwise, I'm on top of it. Happily, I'm always able to reason out the website things for myself, because frankly, there isn't anyone I can ask about that! It's interesting to deal with all the website issues alone. I don't generally think about it, but every time I've been 'stuck' on something, I've gone away and done the research (in manuals and online) and tackled things without input from another live person.

I'd love to get to the point where I could do that for IT-related issues, as well, but I'm not sure it's possible without taking a bunch of (very expensive) classes. I'm sure it's cool to be certified, but the variety of areas is daunting, to say the least! Today I was signing up at a tech website for publications, and I had to wade through numerous pages with dozens of topics just to register! Scary shit. I learn more all the time, but there's always another thing that I need to learn -- and often these things seem so basic. (sigh)

I did quickly (and easily) add the essential 501(c)(3) nonprofit tag to our website footer, anyway. That's one task I can check off my list! (smile)

I've also changed out the website logo, which really needed to happen. The logo got a redesign for 2008, and has had another one for 2009, and we've been using the one that was up for 2007 (and not all that attractive). Again, my web graphic skills are in play. I'm forever grateful that I learned these things (much due to LiveJournal, believe it or not), so I'm able to do them now, when I really need to. I took the new logo and made a Paint Shop Pro brush, so I'd be able to cleanly resize it. Then I created a .gif, using a transparent background (based on the background color of our website, of course). I did it first in green, then Marilyn had me try red -- which looks very nice. Then I have to change the include and CSS style sheet and FTP the image. So that's another item I can check off my list!

Oh, and I added a 'Donation' callout box to the Home page, too -- so that's item number three I can check off...

In the To Do category, I still need to make a new Home page banner, so I'll need to give that some thought.

Naturally, the minute I get in here, I've get other tasks that keep me from any list of work I might have. But that's cool. Multi-tasking is certainly an important part of special events work.

We did treat ourselves and have Starbucks today. I added to my Starbucks card, and we both got a beverage and snack -- thankfully, as that's all we've eaten all day. We'll have some late supper when we get home, though. We've got leftover hot dogs and chili, so it's all good.
