Quiet Day

First off, I just got off the phone with the hospital. Chucky is doing pretty well. The damn doctor didn't give me the PIN he was supposed to have (!!!), so they didn't want to tell me anything. But I finally convinced them that Chucky is, indeed, my brother. They told me I could come to see him, but I mentioned having the flu. I wouldn't expose someone just out of surgery, and they don't want me to, either. Anyway, more about his condition as I know it. So far he doesn't have pneumonia, but that's a concern.

I just phone sister Sue to let her know.

Marilyn mistressmarilyn has terrible laryngitis, which I've (so far) managed to avoid. Poor thing!

I woke at 6:00 a.m. and went to the bathroom, then took meds and went back to sleep. I didn't wake up until 1:30 p.m., believe it or not! I asked Marilyn how long she slept, but she just shrugged. I guess she doesn't remember.

We've worked out a good system for communication, even when I'm upstairs and she's down. Some of it involves clapping, most of it means she expresses herself with facial features, while I watch.

Interestingly, we just watched "The Spiral Staircase," featuring Dorothy McGuire and an amazing cast. Of course we've both seen it before, but it was worth watching again. In it, Dorothy's character is mute...

We also watched an old fave, "Exodus" (was Paul Newman ever hot as Ari), which we've seen so many times we almost know it by heart. (I read and re-read that book so many times when I was younger...)

Now "The Enchanted Cottage" (another Dorothy McGuire film) is playing. But I think we're both ready for a nap, so I doubt we'll manage to see it. Of course, we've seen it before, too. I love that movie!

Ron (the computer guy) phoned me today. He's convinced that Jeff's computer just needs a new switch, and he's ordered one. He said it should be here this week. I'm not letting my hopes get too high -- I'm ready to replace the computer if we must. Anyway, meanwhile Jeff is using the Graphics computer (which is in the IT Workspace, which is close by his office). If Ron can fix it, that's great. If not, I'm still interested in having him do some other work for us, reformatting computers and with a couple more rebuilds. It's all good!

Well, I'm off for a nap.
