Memorial Day is traditionally a big work day here at the Rose Festival, actually.
When Mom was still alive it used to be maddening that every year she'd actually ask us what we were going to be doing on Memorial Day!
Ah... why, the same
damned thing we do every year, Mom--work! (Duh.)
As is also traditional, we made our annual 'tour' of the Waterfront Village area. (Where our exhibitor tent is, the concert stage is located and our midway is set up. In other words, one of the major money-makers for our organization.)
We had pizza after for lunch. Huge slices! Nice.
In about half an hour Marilyn mistressmarilyn and I will be headed out to Float Maneuverability over at the float warehouse(s). (Where our official float builders have their business.)
I'm hoping it won't rain. Two years ago (I think) we were majorly pissed on and end up soaking wet!
Frankly, it's time for the bad weather to leave us for several weeks (please). We need sunshine--or at least non-wet weather!
Marilyn and I got rained on while doing the planting yesterday. But that's okay. It was typical spring weather (especially for Portland). Showers and then clearing all day long.
June (my neighbor and close friend) gave me some new Hosta. Very lovely! Especially the variegated variety! (Pale green with white--kind of creamy white.) For those not familiar with hosta, it's a perennial plant that belongs to the lily family and has densely growing 'basal' leaves. It also blooms! It gets these long stems that pop up in the center and then flower. Very lovely!
She also gave me two ferns. (She cut through her outdoor lights cord digging out one of them! Oh dear. I bet her hubby was disgusted...)
We got more flowers and planted those and are now pretty well done for this year (hopefully). We've put around $200 into flowers and related sundries (like my new 100 foot hose and the hose roller)...
Everything is expensive, I guess!
But with the new green lawn and new plants/flowers, things look so pretty! I can't wait to get out our lawn furniture and finish cleaning out the fountain in the corner. Then we'll only need to do a few minor things...
I love our home. Love our house and love our yard. I really do...
Well, I should get back to work now. It's not long 'til we head out for the other event.
I need to go home and do laundry and organize my disaster bedroom! Seriously.
And I didn't sleep well last night, so I could sleep right now! (I really didn't feel that well last night or this morning. But I'm fine now, fortunately!)
I'm still getting used to the new contacts. Very interesting!
Can I just say again how much I love the movie "Troy"? It's certainly not historically perfect, but it's delightful even so! The acting is good, the direction is good, it nevr drags, the feel of the time period is captured very well and I love the sparks that fly between the various characters...
Can't wait to have time to write some "Troy" slash! LOL.
Better dash. Take care, friends!
