It's now around 2 a.m. and we just got home from the office...
Marilyn mistressmarilyn is in the shower washing her hair before heading to bed for a (very) few hours of sleep. She has a really busy day at the office tomorrow, so she needs to be up bright and early.
I need to be up bright and early, too. I'll manage the early, but I'm not sure how 'bright' I'll be. (heh)
I did get that computer moved for Amy (our Intern who is staying on to do the Auction for the festival this fall). And managed to (eventually) install the auction application and get everything else ready for her.
Though computer profiles 'float' from computer to computer when you log in to the server, certain aspects have to be set up brand new with each computer you use. It's a pain, but it is what it is. I generally try to set up as much as I can for the user (in my IT Manager role), so that they don't have to deal with crap later on. I'd describe the whole process here, but I'm too tired and it's too late -- so maybe another time. It's actually interesting how it works -- especially all the Microsoft Office softwares.
I spoke to Tom on my cell after we'd reached the office. He'd left a message on my phone around noon that didn't come through until 8:45 p.m.! Voicemail can be like that, of course. I remember years back when I worked in an office where voicemails would just 'disappear' for hours and even days -- and I'd get so beat up by my boss for not having them right away. As if there was some way I could fix that issue! Marilyn has had voicemails that didn't come to her cell phone for as long as a week, believe it or not. So it could have been worse, I guess...
I've wanted one for around four years now -- but this year I've been wanting it way more than in the past.
I'd so love to be able to have a DVD playing while I'm working at the office. I could take it from place to place (depending on where I was working) and at least listen to it while I worked. It would be especially nice when working late at night (like tonight) -- or working up in the IT Room (or in another office/cube while doing computer stuff).
Yeah, it's a trivial need, at best. But I want it.
Tom has offered to buy it for me a couple of times now, but I've resisted that. I told Marilyn he wanted to buy it and she said, "That's nice of him," in a tone that sounded like it was a done deal. Maybe I should reconsider and let him. The man is generous beyond words, as I've said many times here. I just hate to ever push it to where I'm taking advantage of him, because I'd never, ever do that.
He wants to get together for coffee tomorrow. I was all over the idea, but now it's really going to depend on how much of my remaining work I get done. I've got some stuff that just must be finished right away -- and it's taking longer than I'd expected, frankly. (sigh)
Well, it's nearing 2:30 a.m. now, so I should get ready for bed. Morning comes pretty quickly, after all!
Can I just say it's maddening to me that Marilyn has so damn much work on her plate at all times? She's doing five of the Pinnacle submissions this year. And has flash reports due, too. She's a very good sport about it, but it's so unfair for her to spend her DAYS OFF (Sunday and Monday) doing this stuff. It's not like she can take off Friday to make up for it, either...
The festival is damn lucky to have her. That's all I have to say about that...
Goodnight all!
