Jim McKay

A true icon died yesterday. Jim McKay was always a part of my life, really -- he was simply there forever (born in 1921, he was a year younger than my dad).

What an incredible career as a professional sports journalist on TV! And who can ever forget his phrase "...the thrill of victory, and the agony of defeat..."???

His full name was James Kenneth McManus -- Jim McKay was his professional name. His son, Sean McManus, is the president of CBS Sports and News divisions. Just think of the legacy we're talking about here!

Obviously the man lived a long, full life, so I can't really grieve his passing. (And he hasn't been active in his journalist role for some time.) But I couldn't let his passing go unnoticed in my blog...

Jim McKay, you were amazing -- and you'll be missed.
