Birthday Thank Yous!

Thanks to everyone who took time to offer me birthday greetings yesterday -- you guys ROCK!

Thanks scarletsherlock -- for my lovely virtual cupcake! (Yes, I think virtual gift giving is fabulous.) (Or currently on my Profile page, of course.)

Thanks annaed770, both for this this and for the mention in your own journal (here), with the glittery bday girl! (smile)

Thanks imortlnoctrn, for this this greeting in your blog!

Thanks haveyaseenlucky, for this this greeting!

Thanks uawildcatgrl, for this this greeting!

And thanks again to Kayt the_kaytinator for the package (all the way from Australia!) and to Geta ohmorningglory for the lovely email.

I truly all of you!

I'm so lucky to have all my lovely LiveJournal friends -- I treasure knowing you.

You know, I didn't get a chance yesterday to share this as planned on my bday, so I'll do it today. It's a birthday meme I previously shared back in 2006 (although not on my bday).

Wikipedia Birthday Meme
Go to Wikipedia. Type in your birthday (month and day). List three events, two births and one death.

Okay, I guess I didn't read the instructions carefully enough, as I ended up doing three items for everything -- events, births and deaths (plus I added holidays and observances). But it's so much fun that I got carried away. (smile)

Wikipedia Birthday Meme (December 4)

1952 - Great Smog of 1952: A cold fog descends upon London, combining with air pollution and killing up to 12,000 in the weeks and months that follow.

I picked that one because that was the actual year I was born -- and I'd never even heard of the 'Great Smog of 1952' before doing this meme the first time...

Great Smog of 1952

1867 - Former Minnesota farmer Oliver Hudson Kelley founds the Order of the Patrons of Husbandry (better known today as the Grange movement).

I picked that one because I've always been fascinated by Granges.

1921 - The Virginia Rappe manslaughter trial against Roscoe 'Fatty' Arbuckle ends in a hung jury.

I've always been fascinated by the trial of Roscoe Conkling (Fatty) Arbuckle (and feel he got a raw deal).

1912 - Pappy Boyington, American pilot (d. 1988)

I've always been fascinated by Pappy Boyington.

1921 - Deanna Durbin, Canadian actress and singer

1973 - Tyra Banks, American model

1123 - Omar Khayyám, Persian poet, astronomer, mathematician, and philosopher (b. 1048)

1334 - Pope John XXII (b. 1249)

1679 - Thomas Hobbes, English philosopher (b. 1588)

holidays and observances

Yes, I totally ADDED this category. But you have to admit it's interesting.

Roman festivals - secret ceremonies in honor of Bona Dea

R.C. Saints - Saint John of Damascus: optional memorial; also Saint Barbara

Be sure to read about Saint Barbara (especially if you've been in and/or are fascinated with the military).

Santería, Lukumí - Day of Shango

That's all for now. I'll hopefully share birthday details later -- along with photos from the Waverly Country Club holiday party!

  • Sick. Stormy Night!

  • Colored My Hair (finally!!!) - Another Busy Day

For the record, it's currently 2:46 a.m. -- night for Friday in my mind, but actually Saturday -- very early. I just watched an episode of "Hart to…
