blood drop

Saturday: Low Blood Sugar at the Office

Marilyn and I are working away at the office. Today was a BEAUTIFUL, sunny day -- with bright blue skies! But cold!!! Still, heartbreakingly lovely!

So nice that Rick (the guy from the City of Portland) was willing to finish up his job in the bathroom tomorrow! He's done all the white tile, which looks fabulous! Marilyn was wondering if he hires out. Maybe we could get him to do some stuff we need done at our house! I think I'll leave him a note...

I just had a low blood sugar incident. You know, those things never feel good. It was 57, so that's pretty low (at least, it is for me). I went downstairs, chomping on the last little bit of my bag of Cheetos that Marilyn brought home to me last night. But I needed some sugar, so I went in the lunch room to check things out. I found a small bottle of Pepsi 'Real Sugar' pop. On the way back to Marilyn's office I ran into the corner of the one counter -- it's made of glass tiles. I managed to slice my elbow open, anyway. (sigh) Yeah, it hurts.

By the way, we had BOTH McDonald's and Starbucks today. Just sayin'...

I was feeling pretty crappy sitting drinking the pop in her office. But I managed to get back upstairs to my desk. I found some Raisinettes (the last of a box) in my desk drawer, so I quickly ate a bunch. My blood count has gone back up, so I'm better now. Marilyn said I was pale...

You know, I suppose it's a GOOD sign that I'm having low blood sugar. The goal is to lower my blood sugar, after all! But it's a really awful feeling. Shaky and dizzy and just blah. Then you generally spike when you're trying to bring it back up -- and that sucks, too. Oh well. I'm sorry to be whining. Anybody got some cheese I can add to my whine? Hahaha. What a big baby. I have friends dealing with cancer and shingles and I'm complaining? Get over it, Charlie!!!

The elbow seems to have stopped bleeding, so I imagine I'll survive. (grin)

Meanwhile, I'm back to one of my big tasks for today. I guess it's going to take FOREVER to do it. I knew that. I'd tried before and hadn't gotten very far. So here I go again. I need to copy everything on my current external hard drive to one of the Server drives. Then I want to also copy it back to a different external. It's a boatload of stuff. Gigs and gigs. I can't think of any way that will be faster...

I should also do a backup of the entire thing, for that matter, which allows for incremental additions over time. But I'll probably do that at home.

Fascinating, right? Not hardly! Hahaha. Well, like most of my entries, I'm not sure why it would ever interest another soul. My life seems pretty boring to me!

The current folder I'm copying has been going for around half an hour -- and has another hour to go! Really??? Actually, I think this is the single biggest folder on the device. So it could improve from here on out! Glancing down the list, I think there are a few other big folders, but they aren't HUGE like this one.

This is the most tedious task. So dull. But essential! So I need to just stick to it.

And that's my Saturday so far.

Marilyn is doing amazing stuff in her office! She works hard all week, then comes in and puts in yet another hard day. She's my hero, that's for sure.

So TIRED Tonight...

Well, at this moment I just can't remember when Marilyn and I finally threw in the towel and came home from the office. I'm just SO TIRED right now.

We had been strongly considering going shopping at Walmart tonight. And we often go really late at night. But seriously, that's NOT happening tonight. We're both far too tired!!!

And we'd been discussing going to the show with sister Sue and Adeena (to see "Spectre"). But after my low blood sugar and then cutting open my elbow, that idea went away. Besides having the cut, Marilyn had told me while we were still at the office that I also bruised my elbow pretty bad. She wanted to put cold packs on it, but I couldn't face anything against it.

All I remember is being pretty dizzy. I'd gone into the kitchen hunting for sugar and found that Pepsi to drink (which tastes nasty, by the way). I was coming back and the next thing you know I'd hit the corner. This isn't that odd, dizzy or not. I think it's related to being left-handed, but I've been 'walking into walls' my entire life. Somehow I just don't judge openings that well and end up brushing against them or actually smashing into them. So it's little wonder it would happen under these circumstances.

Needless to say, my elbow hurts. Hell, my whole arm hurts! Very annoying. Marilyn feels bad that she didn't keep it from happening, but I don't see what she could have done to stop it! She wasn't aware I was that dizzy. I have these damn low blood sugar things quite often, it seems. So there's no reason to assume I won't be functional enough to get from point A to point B just fine. But I sometimes do feel like I might just faint (and I've been a fainter my entire life, too). BUT I'VE NEVER PASSED OUT EVEN ONCE from low blood sugar, just to be clear. And I don't recall ever being under 50 (that I remember right now, anyway). So...

I just peeled my contact lens off my eye balls. Ugh. They seem to get so dry some nights that if I don't take them off before sleeping they're really stuck on my eyes. Very uncomfortable! But for the most part I do just fine wearing them all day every day. My eye doctor feels strongly that they need to come off at night, so I'm usually pretty good at making sure I do that BEFORE I fall asleep. But as we WERE thinking about going shopping, I decided not to do it tonight. Bad call, Charlie! Hahaha.

We watched "The Muppet Christmas Carol," before going to lie down. It's the 1992 movie, dedicated to Jim Henson who died in 1990. Following the above link you might enjoy reading the full story of the film -- I did. We were both SHOCKED when the song "When Love is Gone" was CUT from the movie (!!!), but apparently that was done in several versions! Certainly not in the ones we have here at home! But we have this in VCR format. I'm now worried about owning it on DVD someday, but NOT having that song, which we love. Annoying as hell! Who decides these things???????

We had thought the cut was related to seeing it with commercials, which is already annoying...

By the way, the brand new Muppet movie "Turkey Hollow," was actually conceived by Jim Henson with his writing partner Jerry Juhl back in 1968. In the article I read about it, the writer makes a joke about not worrying that your memory is going -- hahaha. Appropriate for those of us that remember when the Muppets first showed up. They'd started on the project, but it got shelved when Sesame Street took off. But Jim's daughter (who now oversees her father's company) recently rediscovered the script and a few of the original puppets, so instead of the 'new' Muppets we're all seeing on the TV series, we get this vintage Henson movie.

Anyway, the movie includes Ludacris and Mary Steenburgen -- plus a bunch of never-before-seen, adorable monsters, and two siblings paying a Thanksgiving visit to a Luddite aunt who lives in a WiFi-less and cable-less town. Welcome back to our childhood, in other words! Hahaha. Marilyn and I taped it, and I think it's a must-see, really. I hope I'm not as disappointed by this film as I am by the series (which I frankly can't stand to watch).

I need to search around for "Mouse on the Mayflower," the 1968 animated Thanksgiving TV special that was created by Rankin and Bass (and was originally sponsored by McDonald's). It's a story about Willum the mouse, who took a ride on the Mayflower -- he was voiced by Tennessee Ernie Ford (for those who remember this famous man).

Marilyn and I both love this show, and enjoy all the music. Eddie Albert and John Gary also performed as voices.

Anyway, I transferred this from video to DVD some years ago. I don't know if I've ever done that with anything else, but that's a sign of how much we love it. (smile) I don't know why they never play it. Maybe they think it wouldn't appeal to modern kids... The audience score at Rotten Tomatoes is only 50%. That surprises me...

Well, I guess I'll head to bed. My ankle has been bothering me on and off all day and my elbow is throbbing and I'm generally a mess. But I'm glad about the work I got done. I wish I'd done more with my project, but copying that stuff is very SLOW going. (sigh) I need another time where I can just keep going. And I can't do much else on the computer while this is going on, or I'll mess it up!

Is it crazy that I'm HUNGRY right now? Hahaha.

Good night, friends!
