st. jude

Annoying -- But Ultimately Successful -- IT Day.

I have to use my St. Jude icon for this entry. Why? Because I prayed to St. Jude and -- as always -- he answered my prayers. Even more so than I'd realized at first!

Today I was home, hoping to get some website work done. But my FIRST plan was to finally install the 'new' modem Marilyn and I got from Qwest, ages and ages ago. We still had our old Cisco modem in place. When we had issues way back when, we ordered the new modem, partly because Qwest no longer supports the Cisco, and partly because we hoped the new modem would improve our connection.

Anyway, we've put it off and put it off. I mean, why take the chance of messing up our internet connection when it's working?

But it's been soooooooo slow lately. And I contacted Qwest about upgrading and was told there was no upgrade available (???). So we both agreed it was time.

I'm not even going to bother to tell you the full 'drama' of getting it to work. Or how many hours (!!!) I spent on this today. Pretty much my ENTIRE DAY went to this project. Early on it wouldn't work, period. Then I had internet for our desktops, but no WiFi for our laptops. Then while messing with our wireless router, I lost our home network -- which meant I lost our connection to the internet again.

I finally got our desktops back up, but still no WiFi. I spoke to Kris (the festival IT consultant and my buddy), who immediately offered to come by and fix it (which I know he could do in a heartbeat). I put him off, because I couldn't deal with it then. I needed to clean up around here, do the garbage and recycling AND take a much-needed shower.

Marilyn had a difficult day at work today -- I'm sure far more stressful and busy than my day, believe me. And she was soooooo sweet to me today! She told me to hire Kris long before he offered, but I wanted to do it myself.

I talked to sister Sue several times today. We'd hoped to go to Starbucks for coffee, but my computer woes didn't allow for that. She was very sweet to me, though, when we spoke.

Anyway, Marilyn finally came home and we had dinner. Then I was headed to finally (!!!) shower, when she called to me from the family room to tell me she was online with her laptop -- meaning we DID have WiFi after all!

I went downstairs and couldn't get connected -- and was stunned she could! Finally I got on, too. So I guess in the end I did fix the issue. End of story for today.

I did do two loads of dishes in the dishwasher, feed the crows, finish the garbage and recycling and hunt around for the original router CD and book (never found 'em), helping me to locate some other things that have been 'missing.' So it wasn't entirely an IT-only day. But I didn't touch the website -- or do much else festival-wise. Whatever. I put in a long work day yesterday -- and plan to do the same tomorrow. So...

On a serious note, I can't remember a single time St. Jude has let me down! Of course, I can also pray to Saint Isidore, the patron saint of computers and the internet, I suppose. I've never tried that before! And as much as I love Archangel Michael (or St. Michael, if you prefer), he hasn't been much help with computer problems. I've read that he can be, but he's just not doing it for me, personally. (I'll pray to him for other things, as I have in the past. No worries!) Nice to have the wonderful saints to pray to -- not that I mind the Holy Trinity (Individually or as One) or the Blessed Virgin, of course. But there's nothing wrong with variety in prayer, I think...

On that note, I'm now headed for a MUCH-NEEDED nap! What a day...
