2010 Winter Olympics -- A Death and What Time Zone?

Marilyn mistressmarilyn and I feel awful for everyone about the death of Olympic contender 21-year-old Georgian luger Nodar Kumaritashvili (during a training run).

Obviously we feel bad for his family and his nation. But we also feel awful for the event organizers. We know how hard it is to deal with terrible situations (yes, including deaths) during your event...

We're sitting here at past 8:00 p.m. waiting for NBC to FINALLY play the Opening Ceremonies for those of us watching in Oregon.

It TOTALLY SUCKS that even though we're in the very same time zone as the Olympics in Vancouver, B.C., Canada, we're not getting things LIVE. Exactly why the hell is that, NBC???

I'm not kidding about this: If there was ANY OTHER OPTION for viewing, I'd use it. And there's a part of me that wants to stop watching NBC entirely. Ever. This isn't the first time they've pulled crap like this with those of us on the west coast -- and with no good reason. What is the possible excuse for not playing something happening in our own time zone LIVE???

I'm so pissed off I can't even be polite about it.

I can't express how much I've come to hate NBC. I know, I know. They don't care. I get that. Anyway, I'm going to try and cool down about it and enjoy the telecast in spite of them. But Marilyn was telling me about what it was like to view coverage in Canada (the year she was there during the Olympics) -- and it makes me wish we had a way to watch their telecast.

You know, someday this will possible -- and NBC will be sorry they alienated people like me. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this happens sooner, rather than later!
