I was pretty sad not to go to work today, as this was our day at City Hall for two purposes. The first was for the Mayor to declare May 23 Mayor Harry Lane Day (and Marilyn wrote the proclamation that he read and signed!!!). I wanted to be there in my special 'Mayor Harry Lane Day' tee shirt that Marilyn had made for several of us to wear. Darn!
Anyway, I was watching via one of the cable TV channels that covers City Council meetings -- and things got really messy. The way it works in Portland is that anybody can sign up to speak about whatever is on the docket. I don't know why it's okay for 'Joe Public' to speak without turning in their testimony, seeing as people giving standard testimony must do that! What a mess. Cursing and totally inappropriate 'testimony' took place. They had to clear the room and stop the broadcast.
Fortunately they took all of our staff who were there -- plus our Living History Mayor Harry Lane -- into another room, where they DID sign and got photos taken. Unfortunately Jeff stayed behind the group and ended up being CHASED from City Hall by a protester! Why is THAT okay???
Marilyn did another Living History performance today and was EXHAUSTED when she got home, little wonder!
I am hoping to go to work tomorrow, though. We are jurying for the International Youth Silent Film Festival after work tomorrow night and I've done it for several years now -- and would HATE to miss it. I hate missing out on all these things going on currently.
I didn't miss out on a bunch of IT work today, though, via phone. (sigh) I'll share more about that soon. It's after 2:00 a.m. and I'm heading to bed now. More later!
