But even though today was going to be record heat, we'd talked on and off all week about maybe driving out for the Columbia County Fair. It's a very small fair, and we always see the signs for it every year when we're driving back and forth from the beach house...
So we pulled ourselves together and drove there, arriving at almost exactly 2:00 p.m. We knew that it was half-price admission day, mainly because most of the major activities were already over. But we didn't think we'd last long anyway, so we didn't mind. Temperatures were in the high 90's!!!
We started out buying some new cowboy hats, on sale just inside the gate. There was no charge for parking, rather a nice surprise. Again, it's a smaller fair. The cost was $4 each to get in.
We immediately went to see all the 4H agricultural displays, seeing a huge head of cabbage and loads of other fruits and veggies. Then we viewed all the animals, which included bunnies and chickens and goats and sheep, pigs, turkeys, cattle and horses. I don't think I missed anything in that list! Hahaha. It's always one of our favorite parts of county fairs, seeing the animals. We also saw art and quilts and scrapbooks on display. And we checked out a number of vendors selling things. Plus we ate pronto pups (corn dogs) and had shaved ices -- lovely, considering how hot it was!
We spent some time talking to a sheriff who was there, and sat resting and listening to people playing bingo. There was happily a lot of shade and it really is a lovely fair grounds.
After an hour and a half we were done -- and the heat had totally worn us both down. So we headed back home again.
Then we watched some TV. I went down for a nap shortly after, so I couldn't say for sure what Marilyn was up to! But we did both get some rest again during the rest of the day.
I'm still struggling with my laryngitis, and trying hard not to talk much. And I've got a cough now, which is pretty maddening. But I'm taking my medicine regularly and drinking a lot of liquids.
Amusing note: I really can't stand many cold drinks on my throat right now! So I like to drink warm pop and water (or actual hot beverages, especially hot tea). Funny how normally I'm trying so hard to keep my drinks COLD!
My update on the Cloudmark Desktop One software? I LOVE it. Both at home and work. But especially at home, where my Outlook doesn't seem to filter my SPAM at all, to speak of. That doesn't mean I don't get a TON of SPAM (I certainly do). And it doesn't mean that I don't have to spend time processing it (I do). It just makes it easier for me to wade through all of it. I feel like it's saving me some time every single day. I don't know if this would be true for everyone, because I get a LOT of SPAM -- partly because I have several accounts forwarding into my home account. (I'm responsible for more than just my own account at the office, for example. So these all forward to me.) But if you get a LOT of SPAM, then this is amazing, no doubt about it.
It's too bad that you can't use SPAM filters on your iPads! I wonder WHY that's true? Same thing for iPhones, by the way. Anyway, for PCs, this is powerful stuff...
Marilyn's asleep as I write this, so I think it's time to head to bed.
We didn't do ANY of our huge list of chores and errands, as yet. (sigh) So we put those off for tomorrow. I guess it's going to be a pretty busy day! We need manicures (not sure about pedicures) -- and that's hours of our time. (Plus we HATE getting it done.) We need to do some major shopping (we're out of medicines and supplements we both take). We were supposed to set up Marilyn's new iPhone, but I don't know if we can manage to get that done tomorrow, with everything else. We need to clean house and do laundry and dishes and on and on. And we talked about getting more plants and planting them this weekend, too.
As for next weekend, we won't be heading to the beach then. We've got another funeral next Saturday (our former neighbor Rita passed -- and Janet and Doug invited us to attend).
But we do hope to get to the beach on our next week off, which is the last week of this month...
I hope I FEEL BETTER tomorrow. I really don't want to have to go to the doctor with this... (sigh)
That's it for today, I think. Goodnight all!
