"If there is someone on your friends list who makes your world a better place just because they exist and who you would not have met (in real life or not) without the internet, then post this same sentence in your journal."
I love people, as I've said in so many posts in the past here. So I feel really blessed that I've encountered so many wonderful people on my friends list. Yes, I've actually met some of you. But I'm equally happy about the many, many more of you who I have not met in person. (And probably never will meet.)
For me, the internet is very much about friendships that would have been impossible in the past. I'm so grateful for this amazing way of interacting with others.
In the past I 'met' many people via letters and phone calls. I was actively involved in more than one fandom, and was president of an international fan club that allowed me to meet a lot of people. In fact, I just spoke long distance to one of these friends a few weeks back. I've never met her face to face, and suspect I never will. Yet we've exchanged birthday and Christmas packages for well over a decade now, and I know more about her than many of the people I actually see all the time. And she's only one example! (smile) In fact, I wish she was on the internet, so we could easily interact more often. (sigh)
Because honestly, the internet does makes it so very simple to keep in touch with people! Even people who are right in the city I live in, like my best friends and my family.
I often wonder: What did we do before the internet?
